Bowdoin Women Return Heart of Lineup
by Eileen Schneider, co-captain

Women's 03-04 Season Outlook:
In his fourth year at the heart of the Bowdoin men’s and women’s squash teams, head coach Tomas Fortson anticipates exciting campaigns from both squads. A solid core of veterans will provide leadership for each team and look to capitalize on the junior-level experience of Bowdoin's recruits. Again, depth up and down the ladders and constant improvement characterize the program.

Bowdoin's women return just four of the top nine from the 2003 Kurtz Cup championship team and expect to battle with closely matched opponents in the same division. The ladies in black have reloaded this season with a solid group of recruits and expect to see the results of tough off-season dedication manifested on the courts as the season progresses.

The Polar Bears’ 2003 MVP and All-American selection Niki Clement will take the top spot in an effort to improve on a 20-4 freshman record. She will be followed by Senior Co-captains Katie Irving and Eileen Schneider. The rest of Bowdoin’s lineup will be determined by Senior Kara Oppenheim alongside a crew of Freshmen and Sophomores, each of whom bring experience and talent to the courts. Sophomores Molly Dorkey, Margaret Fuller and Brooke Nentwig will battle for ladder positions with First-years Dodie Press, Susie Martin, Lydia Pillsbury, Allie Chin, and Cotton Estes. The strong class of ’07 finds itself immersed in the proven Bowdoin tradition of player improvement and is poised to provide exciting results throughout their stays in Brunswick.

Bowdoin will host the individual Maine Open tournament in early November, followed by trips to Harvard and Wesleyan before the new year. Round robins at Williams and Yale will provide several matches and test the Bears within the Kurtz division. To thrill the winter crowds in Brunswick, the Polar Bears will host Brown, Dartmouth, Bates, and Colby in home matches, and then close out the regular season with a February round robin including Hamilton, Tufts, and St. Lawrence.
