The highlight of the season was when the men lost in the finals of the Summers Trophy (Div. III National Championships). The following awards were given to the team's most outstanding players:

Most Valuable Player - Chris Reigeluth (c)
Most Improved Player - Trevor McWilliams
Rookie of the Year - Amit Gaind
Student/Athlete Award - Todd Basnight
Coaches Award - Sam Weeks

Men's 03-04 Season Outlook:
The 2003-04 will be another intense squash season with a minimum of twenty matches spanning from November to March. The matches will comprise mostly of all the NESCAC schools as well as a few Ivy League colleges. Important weekends will be the Yale Invitational (Jan. 17-18), the Trinity Invitational (Jan. 24-25), and National Team Championships (Feb.27-29).

High on the list is to improve Colby's third place standing in the CBB (Colby - Bowdoin - Bates) rivalry.

A key addition to the squad is freshman Mark Biggar who comes to Colby from the University School Ohio. He was ranked 27 in the u19 last year.

The Coach
Sakhi Khan is entering his third season as Head coach of the Men's and Women's squash programs. He has over twenty-five years of squash experience. In that time he has been a four-time All-American varsity squash player graduating from Tufts University in 1985. As a college player he reached the finals of the National Collegiate Squash Championships and
won the Massachusetts State Championship three times. He has also competed on the World Professional Tour for seven years. As a professional he won the World Teaching Professional Championships twice. Khan is also a fourth generation family member of the Khan Squash dynasty.

Colby Program Notes:
The squash program is primarily geared to three things. The first is fitness training, the second is mental toughness and the third is improving shot-making ability.

As part of our fitness regiment the team runs a timed mile almost every practice during first half of the season and occasionally during the second half of the season. In addition, team performs court sprints as well as star drills. There is also a weight lifting program. All of this is to ensure that every player is physically prepared for competition.

For mental toughness we discuss keeping the correct frame of mind during critical times in a match. The importance of keeping your cool under fire is vital for all team players to understand and to prepare for. The approach is to have constant challenge matches and vigorous court drills. We believe that the more a player is kept under pressure, the more mentally tough that player will be when he or she will need it most.

Court strategy and shot-making ability is the center of attention during private sessions with the coach. Team discussions and court drills also play a major part of this development. Throughout the season the coaches will break down a player's game by distinguishing strengths from weaknesses and chart an individualized course to better court strategy.

All of above is combined with heavy emphasis on good stretching principles as well as proper nutrition. The goal is to maximize endurance to attain a higher performance level both physically and mentally while avoiding injury.

Finally, the squash program has undoubtedly been a rewarding experience in the college careers of all the student athletes who have chosen to participate. It is structured to challenge us throughout the season, and to give us a sense of accomplishment in the end.
