Cornell Comes Back Fitter and Stronger

2003-04 Squash Program Outlook
by SquashTalk Staff

Returning with 7 top ten players all of whom are sophomores and juniors, combined with the additions of 4 freshmen recruits, the women's team looks considerably stronger this season.

After a challenging 2002-2003 season, the Big Red is back ready to face competition stronger, fitter, and faster. With a new training program promoting strength and endurance, the ladies are working hard both on and off the court to hone their skills. Our team is young and positive and look ahead at the season with the fire and determination of hard-working athletes excited to create an edge over opposing teams. Things look bright for 03-04 and Cornell squash.

Three of the top four players are returning this season and look to play in the top half of the line-up. Sophomore and co-captain Cory Warfield had a challenging first year playing in the number one and two positions, but learned much from the competition and has made strides with her game. Junior and co-captain Brooke Stetson returns for her third season, having shared the top two positions with Warfield and will contribute with experience and determination gained from last season.

Sophomore Allison Laycob returns after making considerable progress in the off-season, having developed her technique considerably, and ready for a big season.

Recruiting for the upcoming season went extremely well for the women's team, and we are thrilled to welcome freshmen Caitlin Russell, Margot Dickson, Anna Beavis, and Jamie Singer to the team. Each have already established themselves as significant additions to the team and will prove invaluable this season. Only time will tell but with new strength in the middle and top of the line up Cornell looks poised for a big season.
