Squash Program 03-04 Forecast
The University Of Rochester squash team experienced some big changes in the
off season. Most noticeable is the addition of new head coach David Kay. The national hardball doubles star comes to Rochester by way of Princeton and New York city, where he has been a head pro for the past 7 years. In addition, some young up and coming players will complement the strong core of returning players to help the yellowjackets improve on last years #21 ranking.

The team is looking forward to a competitive season with 4 of last years top five players returning, and the return of junior Gen Izumida who missed the majority of last season due to injury. Co-Captain Allen Fitzsimmons returns at the top spot, and Dave Easwaran, Co-Captain Pete Avitable, and Dave Sokoloff round out the top 5. The 6-9 spots will be filled with a combination of returning talent and fresh faces. Big things are expected from sophomore Steve Gelb, who returns to the starting lineup, and freshmen Kelvin Ko.

Rounding out the top 9 are returners Jay Acharya, Naveed Mastan, and Sunit Chaundhry. Adding depth to the roster is freshmen Aaron Kime. The Yellowjackets will get an additional boost in the spring, when senior Drew Chapman returns from abroad.

The team has been working hard and benefiting from coach Kay's extensive squash experience and no-nonsense work ethic. The fall season will see the Yellowjackets focusing on the inaugural UCAA championships at rival St Lawrence, where the Yellowjackets aim for a big in-conference result.
