University of Toronto Looks South

2003-04 Squash Program Outlook
by David Cooper, Head Coach

The University of Toronto who are the reigning Ontario University Association women's champions announced the 2003-4 line up today and for the first time will include two
top 10 Canadian ranked women.

Carolyn Russell, #4 in Canada is in her second year of her MBA and is the current Canadian
University Individual Champion and Katie Patrick #6 in Canada is just starting a 4 year degree in Law. Both will be eligible to represent the Varsity Blues and make them an
even more formidable team. Also returning is Julia Hamilton, #14 in Ontario who led the Toronto to their 2nd OUA Championship in 4 years in February 2003. At #4 will be
Lindsay Auld who is in her last year in Medicine after being a member of the team for 5 years. Lindsay was voted an OUA Athlete of the week in January 2003 for going undefeated in OUA league play. Stepping up to the #5 spot will be former Ontario Junior and 2nd year Physical Education student, Karlene Headley-Cooper who won OUA gold last year as a
rookie.

The other 5 places will be decided between returning players Pat Meindl, Yuka Jokura and Emily Robson and rookies Mary Jane Ferraro, Catherine Scandett, Shuhsien Zhu, Boki
Chung and Renee Cohen.

The Varsity Blues will be playing exhibition games against Cornell, Princeton and Penn in
November and participating in the St. Lawrence tournament in January 2004. The management of the team remains the same with Head Coach David Cooper who has steered the Blues to 2 golds and 2 silver medals in 5 years of OUA play, Assistant Coach and WISPA player Izumi Matsuda and former varsity player Anh Luu. Toronto is looking to expand its program in to the States due to lack of opposition in Ontario.
