William Smith Anticipates Stellar Campaign

2003-04 Squash Program Outlook
by SquashTalk Staff

Despite the graduation of Lauren Lynch, William Smith's all-time leader for career victories, the 2003-2004 season could shape up to be the Herons' best- ever camapaign. Five new first-years, with a wealth of national and international experience, enter a program which is looking to improve upon last year's 3rd place finish in the Walker Cup (C Flight). In addition to the new players, the Herons are returning seven starters from last year's team, so expectations are high. This year's goal will be to win the Walker Cup or qualify for the Kurtz Cup at the end of the season.

The Heron's lone senior, Karli Maciejowski, is spending the fall semester in New Zealand, but she's looking forward to her final semester playing intercollegiate squash. Although she had never played squash before coming to William Smith, Karli has become one of the Herons' stalwarts. She should be considered for the Ann Wetzel Award, given to senior who began her squash career in college.

Key Recruits are: Shaila Pandole, #4 in the U19 Indian national rankings heads a strong incoming first-year class. Nationally ranked Lindsay Raden also should join the team in January. Helen Grassi, Katie Hendricks, Serena Turner, and Taylor White round out William Smith's strongest recruiting class ever.
